BIRDS

Of the approximate 10,000 birds that inhabit our planet, just over 400 are found in the UK, which includes some overseas visitors. Although, some species are nocturnal, shy or rare, there are many we can easily see, which makes them easier to spot than our native mammals. I think they're also a lot easier to identify than different species of fungi and insects. Add to this the beauty of their flight, feathers and birdsong, it's no wonder there is a large number of people who love bird watching. I'm a relative novice, and I'm sure like many people, I do have a few favourites. But, that list seems to be growing all the time as I see new ones and learn more.
