AMPHIBIANS
These are the cold-blooded vertebrates such as Frogs and Toads. There are only two native species of these in the UK, though there are several non-native species. There's the Common Frog, Northern Pool Frog, Common Toad and Natterjack Toad. Whilst I've seen other amphibians overseas, in this country I've only seen the two common species.
Frog Spawn.
These are slimey looking clumps of spawn, whereas Toad lay long ribbons of spawn.
Toad Tadpole.
These tend to be chunkier and all black compared to Frog tadpoles, which are slimmer and covered in what looks like flecks of gold.
Toadlet.
There's nothing quite like seeing a mass of tiny little toadlets hopping about the place. In the summer, near ponds, it''s wise to be careful where you tread! The top photo is a tiny froglet.
