I flew from London Heathrow to Oslo, Norway and then took an internal flight to Harstad/Narvik airport. There was a two and a half hour bus transfer to our accommodation on the Vesteralen Islands, which are located just south of Tromso.

Northern Lights in Vesteralen Islands, Norway

Accommodation - Andoy Friluftssenter Exodus - Arctic Lights

I travelled with Exodus on a Photographic Arctic Lights Trip with Paul Goldstein. However, you can visit the same area on their regular Arctic Lights trip, which now includes the opportunity to do whale watching. We didn't really have an itinerary as a lot was dependent on the weather. However, there is a lot you can see and do depending on whether you travel on an organised trip or do it independently. See the Exodus trip notes to the right if you're interested in further details.

Our group stayed at the Andoy Friluftssenter, which is located in the Vesteralen Islands. We were extremely well looked after by our hosts Nigel and Ingvil. The cabins were fabulous! They were comfortable, warm, well equipped and spacious (3 of us in one cabin) with wonderful views over the fjord. The food was excellent - tasty, plentiful and they catered extremely well to those with special dietery requirements. Nigel was a star driving us around the island, helping us to find good photographic locations. I'd definitely stay there again!
